Eleutherai

Standing in a spectacular location, it is the best preserved fortress of Athenian defenses on the Attic-Boeotian border. It was probably built in the second half of the 4th century B.C. and covers a surface area of over 35,000 square meters. The highlights of the fortress include its defensive walls, featuring masterful isodomic masonry, two gates and several smaller exits; communicating passageways; and two-story towers with doors, windows and stairs both inside and outside the structure.
