Afek Tower

East of Petach Tikva, on a hill near the quarries active these days, stood a Crusader castle in the 12th century called Mirabelle. No archeological excavations have ever been held in the site, but apparently, the Crusaders used Roman and Byzantine stones.

That fact is apparent through the ancient inscription, originated from the Byzantine church, put above the entrance doorpost. Very little remained of the Crusader construction, as the site was occupied, destroyed and rebuilt several times. Most of the traces seen are of the settlement which was built here during the 19th century, called Majdal Jaba.
